Learn to play 5 melodies…for free!

Someone I met over Christmas confided in me that she was worried about her husband singing to their young children. “He’s tone-deaf”, she said, “and I don’t want them to turn out the same”.

I told her not to worry – in fact that the more he sang to them the better it was for them. Because at that age, children aren’t inwardly cringing at the dodgy pitching of their Dad’s singing, they are getting joy and fun from the fact that he is singing to them. And that’s what resonates.

Now a problem could arise in the future if he wanted to be their singing teacher (!), but I very much doubt that will happen – so sing away I said.

Because like any skill, music can be learned. And so even if the musical DNA of these children isn’t as finely-tuned as it might be in others, they can work at it and they will improve. Just like you and I. This even applies to playing by ear, despite the myth peddled that you can either play by ear or you can’t. It’s a skill and you can learn it.

This is what I love teaching people, and I have seen hundreds of people surprise themselves and those around them over the years.

And you can try it, right now – if you want. At no cost!

Click here, and look for the course ‘Learn to Play 5 Melodies’. You’ll be brought through 5 well-known songs and given hints on how to work out the melodies yourself. Some people will take to it straight away, and it might take others a bit longer, but all the materials are there to get you started playing piano. By ear. For FREE.

Or maybe you are a bit further along in your musical journey, and want to get back playing an instrument you loved in the past, or want to work out how to put left hand chords with your right hand melodies, or simply want a community of like-minded people with whom you can share your learning?

Well you’re in the right place. The same link will bring you to a course called My First 12 Songs – which does exactly what it says – and also to subscription options, which gives you access to all courses, as well as the 50+ song-based tuition videos already up on the site. Each video shows you how to play a song to Start-Up, Well Able and Pro levels, as well as an accompaniment feature.

Plus access to a Facebook Community Group and a regular live lesson with me and extra challenges – lots to keep you going for the quiet January we all have ahead of us! And you can do it all in your own time.

So go on – it’s worth a try.

Even if you’re tone deaf…

I'm Kieran and I play piano. Actually I do a bit more than just playing - I teach others how to play, and I write music, arrange it and host/produce shows.
