They have a bad name.
A friend of mine was considering moving to Sligo a while back. He had been down to play a few gigs over the course of a few years and loved it here.
He asked me for some advice, and while I encouraged him to come here, I cautioned him that as wonderful a place it is, it’s not always quite as exciting a place as when you’re playing a gig in a crowded pub and the crowd are loving you.
I thought of Lionel Messi, and how begrudgers would always say how it’s fine for him to producing this great football in Barcelona and the sunny climate of Spain, but how would he get on on a rainy Tuesday night in November in the North of England?
He would get on just fine by the way, but I used the same example with my friend and said if you can imagine yourself here on a quiet Tuesday night in November and you’d be happy, well then go for it.
Today, of course, is a Tuesday in November. Lionel Messi won’t be playing in the North of England this evening, but my friend did move here and I hope he’s happy when the quiet of this evening comes around.
But it doesn’t have to be dreary, quiet, or anything at all. It’s a Tuesday in November. Go out and have a great one.
