There was a nice article in The Irish Times this morning about finding wonder in everyday things.
So I was nicely primed for a stop into a piano showroom on the way home today and had a great hour finding the wonder in lots of different instruments – each with its own character.
Just before leaving, I spotted an instrument just inside the front door with a price tag of €74,000. And hence it was very easy to find the wonder in this particular piano.
And while this was undoubtedly a treat, a rare occurrence, afterwards I thought of the author’s point this morning. There are people on this planet for whom playing a €74,000 instrument is the norm, the everyday – and I hope for their sake they can still find the wonder in it. The corollary of that is that for the rest of us, I hope that we can still find the wonder in whatever our everyday instrument is. What’s the point otherwise.
I’ll finish back in the showroom…in a parallel universe I might be able to afford this piano, so I thought Life on Mars would be a good song to play on it…
