The Winner Takes It All…

…first and foremost is a pop song, written by one of the greatest pop groups ever.

It’s in a major key, it’s lively, and the word winner is in the title, so it’s easy to assume (as I always have) that it’s quite a triumphant, happy upbeat song.

However, in last night’s show, Penny asked to sing it with just the piano, and in the process changed everything.

The way she delivered the lyrics, the lack of a beat in her arrangement and the delicate way she chose to present the song, made everyone in the room suddenly realise that the song is not just about the winner, but also about those who didn’t win, and what they are left with.

A song can be delivered in many different ways. Find the way that works for you, the way in which you can connect with it best. , and this will give you a better chance of connecting with your audience.

I'm Kieran and I play piano. Actually I do a bit more than just playing - I teach others how to play, and I write music, arrange it and host/produce shows.
